Lübeck: Weihnachtsstadt startet Montag – A Festive Countdown!
Hey everyone! So, you know how much I love Christmas? Seriously, I'm a total Christmas fanatic. And guess what? Lübeck's Weihnachtsstadt is officially kicking off this Monday! I'm already buzzing with excitement.
This year, I'm planning a super special trip to Lübeck, and let me tell you, I've been prepping for this for weeks! I've been doing my research – checking out the opening times, looking at the market map, even checking out the best Glühwein stands (because, priorities!). Let me share some of my tips and tricks. Last year, I kinda winged it, and let's just say I learned my lesson the hard way...
My Lübeck Christmas Market Disaster (and how to avoid it!)
Remember I said I winged it last year? Yeah, that was a total fail. I got there super late, like, almost closing time. Guess what? Half the stalls were already packed up! I missed out on so much awesome stuff—the delicious Lebkuchen, the beautiful handmade ornaments... I was devastated. I barely even got a Glühwein! It was a complete Christmas tragedy. 😭
Lesson learned: Plan ahead, people! Seriously, check the opening times and maybe even the weather forecast. Nothing ruins a Christmas market experience faster than freezing your butt off!
This year, I'm playing it smart. I’ve even looked at the official Lübeck Weihnachtsmarkt website for a detailed program. They have everything – opening dates, map of the stalls, special events and even some details on transportation and accessibility. That’s smart planning!
Lübeck's Magical Market: What to Expect
Lübeck’s Weihnachtsmarkt isn’t just any Christmas market. It's absolutely gorgeous! Think twinkling lights, the smell of roasted almonds and gingerbread filling the air, and traditional crafts galore. It's pure magic. This year, I’m especially excited about trying some of the local specialities. I saw online that they’re going to have a lot of marzipan goodies from Niederegger, a very famous Lübeck confectionery. I am going crazy for marzipan!
This year, they are also organizing a special Advent calendar event with daily surprises leading up to Christmas. They also have a beautiful ice skating rink, perfect for some festive fun with the whole family. It's going to be awesome!
But the real highlight? The atmosphere! It's so festive and cozy. It's the perfect place to soak up the Christmas spirit and do some unique Christmas shopping. You will find everything from handmade wooden toys to traditional Christmas decorations. They even have a dedicated area for artisan crafts.
Pro-Tip: Beat the Crowds
If you can, try to go on a weekday morning. Weekends get super crowded, especially around the opening and closing hours. Seriously, avoid those peak times like the plague! Trust me on this one!
Beyond the Market: Exploring Lübeck's Charm
While the Weihnachtsmarkt is the main event, Lübeck itself is stunning. Don't forget to explore the Holstentor, the iconic city gate. Wander through the charming old town and maybe grab a bite to eat at one of the cozy cafes. You have to experience the true beauty of this medieval city.
So, that's my plan for this year's Lübeck Christmas market adventure. I can't wait to share my pictures and experiences with you all! Hopefully, this year will be a total success. Wish me luck! Let me know if you're heading to Lübeck's Weihnachtsmarkt this year! Maybe we'll see each other there! And remember, plan ahead! You don't want to end up like me last year. 😉
